No. Most breast lumps are benign (non-cancerous), but it’s important to get every lump checked.
Generally from age 40 onwards, or earlier if there is a strong family history or high risk.
Ultrasound is more useful in younger women with dense breasts, while mammography is more accurate in women over 40. Often, both are used together.
A biopsy (FNAC / Core needle) involves taking a small sample from the lump to confirm diagnosis. It is done under local anesthesia, usually with minimal discomfort.
MRI is not for everyone. It is used when mammography/ultrasound results are unclear, in high-risk patients, or for detailed assessment before surgery.
Additional blood tests and staging scans (CT, PET-CT, bone scan) may be advised to see if the cancer has spread. This helps in planning the right treatment.
No need to panic. “Suspicious” means further tests (usually biopsy) are needed for confirmation.
